Brickfinder Goes To Blockland

Blockland

I took a short trip to the beautiful city of Chiang Mai, Thailand and as luck would have it, chanced upon a very interesting LEGO concept store located at Ruamchok Mall.

Blockland

Blockland is a LEGO building and interaction type of store which allows customers to ‘rent’ and build any of the LEGO sets in their repertoire. All the sets are kept in-house and sterilised after each use.

It is part LEGO day care center (for the KFOLs) and part testing ground for new sets (for the AFOLs).

There are individual tables laid out for you to build to your heart’s content but hygiene is paramount so you got to wash your hands before and after your building sessions.

If you are lucky enough to be there on launch day, you could opt to pay a little bit more to be the first to unbox the new sets.

The brainchild behind this concept store is Taewon Park, a Korean native who saw a growing trend in LEGO cafes in his home country and thought to bring it to Chiang Mai.

The sets are not all relegated to mainline (City, Star Wars, Friends) sets as you are able to build and play with Ultimate Collectors Series sets like the Death Star (75159) , The Tumbler (76023) and even the Millennium Falcon (10179).

It cost about 180 baht  (~SGD$7.50) per hour to rent any of these sets to build but of course, sets like these UCS ones will definitely take a good half a day to be completed.

Although I only had a bit of time to pop in and take a quick tour of the place, I honestly would have stayed to fiddle with some sets that I don’t already have.

Oh, and they had these cute little cubbyholes for your shoes when you take them off before you enter. You know, for kids.
