The ongoing collaboration with LEGO and adidas has reaped a whole host of LEGO related products from sets to apparels.
Their latest line of NBA (National Basketball Association) T-shirts features some of the top ranked players of the sport as minifigures which just begs the question, is LEGO ready to revisit the NBA with a series of collectible minifigures?
Back in 2003, LEGO launched a series of sets and collectible minifigures based on the National Basketball Association. The minifigures had spring loaded leg assemblies so that you could actually use them to “shoot” miniature basketballs on a brick built court.
LEGO has a proven track record for success with collectible minifigure series based on external IP like the Disney series as well as the recent LEGO Looney Tunes and Marvel Collectible Minifigure Series.
It would be a no-brainer to actually re-launch a collectible minifigure series based on the NBA especially since they have already produced the art work, not to mention that they would have already secured some sort of licensing to print them on T-shirts.
Considering the huge collectibility of an NBA minifigure series (can you imagine an official Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson minifigure?), it would be waste if LEGO does not venture into this untapped market.
