LEGO Paper Packaging The LEGO Group has been trumpeting their initiative to reduce their reliance on single use plastics and swapping to a more sustainable alternative for a good portion of last year and now we finally have our first look at how they might turn out.

These foldable cardboard boxes looks like they are meant to substitute the plastic cups of the Pick-A-Brick wall and the blister pack of the Build-A-Minifigure station.

An eBay listing has revealed a pilot programme that LEGO is currently conducting where they sent the paper packaging prototypes to selected individuals. I guess whoever created the eBay entry was a little more interested in getting some greenbacks instead as these cardboard containers were listed for £1000.

There is no word on when these will start to infiltrate the LEGO Brand Stores around the world but it could be as early as next year since LEGO has made a commitment to reduce the use of non-recyclable plastic by 2022.

Do note that these are most likely prototypes and will probably see a few iterations before officially filling out LEGO stores around the world.

This joins the other initiatives that LEGO has announced so far which is abolishment of single use plastics in their sets as well as the re-launch of the LEGO Baseplates that uses paper packaging in 2022.
