LEGO Ideas has just announced the winners of the “If We Could Turn Back Time” challenge and they will be digging deep into the well of 80’s pop culture.
The LEGO Goonies and LEGO Gizmo projects have been selected to be made into actual LEGO sets and while I’m not a big fan of buildable figures, I’m super stoked for an actual playset based on the Goonies movie.
The LEGO Goonies project by Delusion Brick captures most of the key scenes in a tightly constructed diorama along with a slew of minifigures.
I like how one side showcases One-Eyed Willie’s pirate ship while the flip side features mini vignettes that are loosely connected but traces the journey of the Goonies through the film.
The other project that got selected is the buildable LEGO Gizmo figure by Terauma. It is a posable brick-built figure with a handful of articulation joints.
It can also be modified to the Rambo Gizmo from the movie Gremlins 2. As mentioned earlier, I’m not that big a fan of buildable figures as they always feel odd to me.
Hopefully they might decide to include a couple of Gremlin minifigures in this one.
The “If We Could Turn Back Time” challenge was pretty much a no brainer as fans have been campaigning for a Goonies set since the advent of LEGO Ideas.
Plus, LEGO had already secured the rights for both franchises for their LEGO Dimensions effort. Might as well make full use of it. Who knows, maybe we’ll finally get that LEGO A-Team van or better, KITT from Knight Rider.
