This would definitely be one of LEGO’s most unusual collaborations in their attempt to grow their user base.
The set is actually inspired by an upcoming LEGO animated documentary titled Piece by Piece, about musician Pharrell Williams.
I guess it is a good thing that LEGO is branching into the world of music as there is a lot of potential to collaborate with various artists although I can imagine the background checks they would have to do to make sure that they align withe LEGO’s core values.
While I’m hopeful about these projects, the recent LEGO Ideas BTS set didn’t exactly sell that well even here in South East Asia as it was going for a heavily discounted price quite quickly after launch.
The set comes with two main minifigures, one of Pharrell himself and another of Helen Williams.
But the really interesting bit about the entire set is the 49 interchangeable character heads of different flesh tones. I’m super glad that LEGO took my April Fools’ joke seriously and actually developed a minifigure head battle pack for us to find the right element to represent us.
The LEGO Icons Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams 10391 will launch on September 20th which will precede the Focus Features’ PIECE BY PIECE animated film, which will debut in US theatres on 11th October, and internationally on 6th November.
