LEGO Chief Marketing Officer Julia Goldin Confirms Possible LEGO UCS Millennium Falcon Re-Release

LEGO UCS Millennium Falcon Re-Release

As Star Wars celebration draws near, all eyes (and ears) are peeled for any morsel of news regarding to the much desired, and highly probable,  re-release of the Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) Millennium Falcon.

Zusammengebaut managed to get a sit down interview with the LEGO Chief Marketing Officer, Julia Goldin and pretty much asked her point blank if there is a possibility of a re-release of the UCS Millennium Falcon (10179), the elusive holy grail of any LEGO Star Wars collector.

The chatter for the re-release of the Millennium Falcon has reached a fever pitch this year. Especially since it is the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars in 2017 which I’ve covered extensively in a previous article.

There are a lot of great reasons why 2017 is a good year to re-release the coveted “10179” as

  1. It is 40 years since “A New Hope” debut and changed pop culture as we know it.
  2. It is also the 10th anniversary of the release of the UCS Millennium Falcon (10179).
  3. Star Wars Episode VIII is coming out at the end of the year
  4. There are generally two Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Series set released per year and the Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder (75144) will be announced at Star Wars Celebration which leaves on more unidentified UCS for the later part of the year.
  5. It would be a nice tribute to Carrie Fisher who played Leia Organa Solo.
  6. The Falcon features prominently in Star Wars The Force Awakens and rumoured to be a center piece in Star Wars The Last Jedi.
  7. LEGO has teased the re-issue of the Millennium Falcon for years including the Millennium Falcon silhouette easter egg on the box art of the Star Wars Death Star (75159).
  8. LEGO has already re-issued the LEGO Death Star (75159) so there really should be no reason to re-issue the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (10179).

What has been rumoured so far is that the set will feature two satellite dishes, one round (Original Trilogy) and a rectangular one (New Trilogy).

It supposedly will be around the same piece count as (10179) and will be priced around SGD1,000 ~ SGD1,500. Pundits place it’s release some time in September, in time for Force Friday.

I will reiterate that this is still all “speculation” right now although having Julia Goldin coming forward to say that it is a possibility is edging in the right direction. Take it for what you will but frankly, I would say that it is about time.

    “It’s” stands for “it is”.

    “Speculation” shouldn’t be in quotes.
