Will LEGO Mythica Mark The Return of The Castle Theme?

LEGOLAND Windsor revealed a brand new attraction to their theme park a couple of days ago. It is a brand new section of the park which will include a tailored experience which has been two years in the making.

As the name suggests, it will be centred around a “world of mythical creatures” which in the teaser video, hinted at a winged dragon that flies across LEGOLAND Windsor followed by an ice storm setting in.

Practically each LEGOLAND attraction around the world has been derived from an existing theme in LEGO’s repertoire which makes marketing sense since products can be pushed to the patrons who enjoy the rides.

So it is safe to say that LEGO Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures should have at least some LEGO products that reflect the content when the attraction opens in 2021.

Considering we saw a dragon swoop across the sky in the video above, it wouldn’t be too far a stretch that we could see a LEGO theme that is based on a fantasy / medieval context show up next year.

While this is purely speculation on my part, it does have a lot of potential to usher a revival of the LEGO Castle / Kingdoms theme that AFOLs have been clamouring about for the last few years.

Would you welcome another romp through a medieval LEGO world? Or would you prefer if LEGO ventured into another new theme instead of rehashing an old one? Drop a comment below!

LEGO MYTHICA: WORLD OF MYTHICAL CREATURES WILL FEATURE EXHILARATING NEW RIDES, INCLUDING A UK FIRST ATTRACTION. THE NEW MULTI-MILLION-POUND LAND CREATED BY KIDS FOR KIDS MARKS THE LEGOLAND WINDSOR RESORT’S BIGGEST EXPANSION SINCE IT OPENED 25 YEARS AGO.

The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has today revealed it will open a multi-million-pound new land where mythical LEGO creatures come to life. Opening in spring 2021, LEGO MYTHICA: World of Mythical Creatures will feature thrilling new attractions and experiences, including a never-before-seen UK ride.

Created for kids by kids, the parallel universe of LEGO MYTHICA marks the Resort’s single biggest investment since the gates opened 25 years ago and will see children’s imaginations and creativity run wild as mythical LEGO creatures come to life in front of their very eyes.

Unveiling the name in a video shared across LEGOLAND Windsor’s social media channels, the latest tease reveals a mythical portal to another world opening for the first time. In a hint to the creatures that families may find in this parallel universe, huge footprints shake the Resort, a winged shadow flies overhead and the 30 second film ends with an ice storm engulfing LEGOLAND Windsor’s iconic entrance.

Working in partnership with Kids Industries, the LEGOLAND Windsor team behind the new land spent a year discussing and testing ideas and concepts with seven to 11-year olds and their parents who influenced everything from the final ride experiences, names and characters.

“What better way to celebrate our 25th birthday than by unveiling a completely unique experience like nothing else we have launched at the Resort since we opened. At the heart of LEGO MYTHICA: World of Mythical Creatures will be epic rides, including a UK first, and breath-taking mythical creatures designed to capture children’s imaginations and inspire them to build and play. Our new land has been two years in the making and co-created with families to make sure it delivers what children and their parents want from a theme park in 2021. We can’t wait to share more details soon.”

THOMAS JELLUM, DIVISIONAL DIRECTOR AT THE LEGOLAND WINDSOR RESORT

LEGO MYTHICA World of Mythical Creatures is currently under construction at the Resort and is set to open in spring 2021. The new land will be found between Heartlake City and the Resort’s LEGO-themed Hotels.

The new land takes over from Adventure Land, as it was supposed to be themed to The Lego Movie. The Wave Surfer is being refurbished, and the Games Area that was located nearby is being removed for a new section of the park.
That fell through, though, and Windsor had to come up with some other theme that wasn’t IP rated, hence “Mythica”.
Given that Knights Kingdom and Adventure Land are at opposite ends of the park, I doubt they will be linked as suggested in the article.

As Adam says, seems very unlikely it’d have too much of a tie-in to medieval themes given there’s already the Knights Kingdom area at the Resort. Seems interesting though as New York’s areas look to be in-fitting with the usual themes. Seems very unlikely to me that you’d put so much money into something, with LEGO’s backing without their being some existing or planned IP for it.
